Field Trip!

Last week, Year 4 took a short trip into St Alban's City Centre to research land use. In Geography, we have been learning about the features of different types of settlements, and this field trip was the perfect opportunity to see it with our own eyes! We recorded information on the demographics, facilities in the city centre, as well as tallying the different types of vehicles used. We identified several features that make St Albans a city, such as retail shops, transport links, businesses, supermarkets, leisure facilities, coffee shops and restaurants.

In the past, these settlements were identified as places containing cathedrals but today the Queen decides which places get the this title, based on a number of different factors including the size of the population. We will now use the data we have collected to compare St Albans to other settlements and create bar graphs to show our results.
